Auto-Import with associated file move
« on: October 12, 2009, 02:37:41 am »

Hello,

I am just getting used to MC14.

I found auto-import works fine, but is there a way for imported files to be moved into my media structure?
This would be akin to iTunes option to copy the file when importing.

I am kinda OCD about my file structure, and thought it would make my life easier.
My Amazon DLer works fine, it puts the MP3 where they belong. But if I get a stray MP3 from another source, I have to manually find the right directory, and create the album.

Thanks  :D

You can right click on a few files and choose the Library Tools/ Move, Copy, and Rename command.  Set the directory the way you want it.  MC can move the files according to your rules.

You can also set auto-import to watch a directory and import the files automatically.

i think the point here is that itunes & mediamonkey do this without user involvement [ i.e. set & forget]

Correct.

I knew I could move the in MC.
When I think of import, I think of files being moved into my music directory from a watch directory.
Or at least the option to do so.

I certainly think that should be something considered for a software revision.

i always thought it was a scary feature. just think of hanging a large external hd with mucho gigabites of music, or videoos to a machine, and import them in mc. when they also would be moved it can take hours and the internal hd can collapse under his own weight. for me the fact that this 'feature' is missing, was one of the many reasons i choose mc. there are more ways to move files within mc (for instance also, the my computer under devices) and ways to find files not correctly filed, that i think that even an option to do that can give more people headache in the end.
just my opinion ofcource..

That is a possibly.

But they will have to make the effort to tick the "copy to music folder" option.
Then the watch folder would have to be the same as their ext drive.

Like I said, iTunes has that option, and it seems to work well.

Just a thought anyway

The Autotagger plugin should do what you want, although I'd be *very* careful with where you point it-
