Using MCC_OBSOLETE to communicate with MC plugin...

Several commands start with the text "MCC_OBSOLETE". Does anyone know if these commands can be reused as "user commands"? Will they be picked up by the plugin event handler? Any other issues (undocumented usage, for example)?
