Strange standard view behavior (again)
« on: April 21, 2010, 02:06:02 am »

Hello:

After upgrading to MC15, I had started to experience some anomalous behavior in standard view when switching from mini view:

Note the player controls are missing at the top of the window.

What I want is the old behavior, like so:

I posted about this last week, but erased the post a few days ago when after I installed MC15 completely from scratch, the standard view began behaving properly.  However, just within the last 24 hours, it reverted back to the unwanted view.   Have I somehow inadvertently toggled this mode, or is this perhaps a bug?   Any help appreciated.

You're sure this is not the "Cover view" you're talking about? I think this is in the view cycle, so you may be entering this instead of the normal view. Test the 4 arrows in the top right corner of your screen shots, and see if this is it. You can also activate cover view with ctrl + 5. Normal mode is ctrl + 1.

If you can see the left pane with action window and media tree, this might be a bug though.

Hmmm...

My first thought was that you are in "Cover View" too, which is what happens when you click on the that little 4-arrow icon on the far right end of the view header, but I'm not convinced that's the answer as when you go into cover view, the four arrows on the icon turn around to point inwards. The other clue to the cover view question is at the opposite end... if you're in cover view mode, then the task bar should also be, erm, covered!

So what else? Perhaps the Media Center window is not in a maximised state, but restored instead, and sized larger than your screen? To check that, right click on the Media Center taskbar icon (if you're using Windows 7 with taskbar thumbnails, right click on the popup thumbnail instead) and check if the "Maximize" option is greyed out?

If it is not greyed out, and you click on it, does that sort things? Then, if you click on the middle, 'restore' button, does it go all big again?

If yes, then get to that right click menu again, (while in "big mode") and this time, choose "Move". Tap the "Down" cursor key, then use your mouse to drag a corner of the program into view. Click the left mouse button to drop the window there. Now, use this corner to resize the program window so that it will fit in your screen, then exit the program to save the window size and position.

If I'm right, you should be good from there on. Please don't ask me why that has happened to you, coz I don't know!! Do you perhaps play any games, or run any other application that changes your screen resolution on the fly while listening  to Media Center?

I have narrowed it down to the mini skin I am using:  "no frills."  If I use any of the MC included mini skins, standard view behaves as expected. But as soon as I switch to no frills, it starts whacking out again.  I've tried a few other older, third party mini skins.  They exhibit the anomalous behavior as well.

So I guess what I am saying here, is that mini skins that are NOT included with MC15 are breaking Standard View.   Can anyone confirm?

Truly Bizarre.   Okay...must be something I'm doing, 'cause the native mini skins don't do this.
