WebPlay won't play on iPhone 3GS running 4.0
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:03:34 pm »

I'm running iOS4 on my iPhone.  WebPlay works find up until the point where I want to actually play a song.  The display switches to a Quicktime browser window, then a dialog pops up saying "Cannot Play Movie".  These are MP3 files, and I can play these very files using the DLNA applets 'Media Link Player Lite' and 'media:connect'.

FWIW, WebPlay provides a more natural experience, so is much prefered!

Can anyone offer any clues about how to make this work?

Quicktime thinks everything is a movie.  You might try to find out what QT likes and doesn't like.  It may prefer 128Kbps, for example.

It could also be our bug.  We've spent a lot of time on Android the last few weeks and not much on Apple.

It's not a bug because coincidentally I just happened to do the exact thing this morning on my 3GS with iOS4 to see if my library server was still working. The MP3 I played is 192kbps. Sorry I can't offer any suggestions because I'm still new at trying to get all this working too.

I just tested with an iTouch and was able to play MP3 and APE files.

Unfortunately we don't have OS4 device to test with.  Does anyone with one of these devices have any ideas what might need changing?

The QuickTime player code is here (it's pretty simple -- it just hands off URLs to QuickTime):
C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 15\Data\WebPlay\Default\play_qt.html

Thanks.

Thanks for the info.

I'll try to capture some information from QuickTime.  I'm new to the iPhone, so I'll be learning as I go.
