website often not reachable
« on: July 30, 2010, 06:39:17 am »
although not reflected by the amount of posts i made, i often can not connect to the forum the last days. especially during european daytime. im not sure if there is something on this site of the big water or where ever. just thought i should let you know.

+1 - I thought it may be the wet bit of string that connects Oz to the rest of the world but it has been up and down "like a whores draws"

After being unable to accces JRiver.com a few times in May, I started to check the connection with tracert and save the logs. I expected that the problem would be eventually fixed after you have informed the service provider (I assume that Bob has not moved to Arizona :) ), but apparently it still occurs from time to time.

I have never seen the problem occur later during the day (in CDT time).

Our servers are at our office in Phoenix.  The traceroute looks normal, but it can't reach the final destination there.  We're trying to find the reason.

When it's not reachable, can you try a traceroute to the outside address on the router?

I have a feeling it might be a BGP problem.

Actually, my traceroute logs are probably normal. I am seeing the same now. 66.17.84.102 is the last reachable IP address when the destination is jriver.com. I just never tried it when there was no problem. The logs can only indicate that the problem was not before Phoenix.

All the hops show are traced - each one is valid.  You can ignore the end point.

The tool is PingPlotter (Pro, there is a free version).  Fantastic tool.

Sorry about the trouble everyone. There were no server reboots (though there will be some today when I do a massive amount of updating).

It looks like there was trouble in Arizona (hmmm, must be something about Arizona...).

According to my past logs it has always been a problem in Phoenix, AZ.

In my experience, when the site has been slow or unreachable that has happened during the night hours (US time). Usually the problem has suddenly disappeared at about the same time as you guys start your workday...  ;)
