Cover Art in G-Force on track change
« on: August 17, 2010, 04:15:07 pm »

Hi,

When I play an album or a playlist, the G-force visualization starts automatically in Playing Now, which is exactly what I want.

The thing is, I want the album cover art to show on track change along with the text (for about 5s).

It appears when I double-click on a song inside playing now but not when the tracks are changing.

Is there a way to tweak this?  It is particularly good when G-Force is in full screen mode.

I searched the G-Force Toolbar and the MC15 options with no success.

Any help?

Thanks

My copy of G-Force does behave the way you want it to... At least it used to.  I'll have to double-check at home to be sure.  A couple of questions:

1. Are you SURE you are using the latest version of G-Force?

2. Which type of G-Force client are you using (Standard, Gold, or Platinum)?

It's a G-Force setting.

Go to the G-Force Toolbar.

Go to Visualization Preferences - Click here to open up the options.

There is a checkbox to "Show track info when a new track starts" Check this.

It should now work as you hoped.

Yep.  I'm not sure if that setting is the default and you somehow got it turned off, or if it has been manually enabled on my systems for so long that I can't remember doing it manually, but it works for me here and that option is already turned on.

I'm pretty sure the setting is on by default. I don't ever remember changing it on my systems.

From the G-Force FAQ...

Quote
How do I change the track display settings?
To change the track display settings (text size, font, duration):
       1. Start your media player (and G-Force within the media player).
       2. If not already running, start the G-Force Toolbar (on Windows, Start | All Programs | G-Force).
       3. Within the G-Force Toolbar, open the Advanced Settings drop-down drawer.
       4. Open the Visualization Preferences pane and set the desired behavior.

It is on.

Did all that.  This option was checked from the start.

I get the track info but not the cover art.  When I double-click on a song (forcing it to start), it shows ok, but not when passing from a track to another.

I have G-Force 4.0 (3139) platinum.

And when it shows on double-click, it gets all jerky low-res in full screen mode.  All my covers are hi-res jpg.  I would be cool to tweak the way MC speaks to G-Force (cover image size and font).

Not sure what the deal is with your system, but it works over here on mine.

I'd ask on the SoundSpectrum forums, and if you get no response, submit a support requestAndy responds to those (though he doesn't always monitor the forums closely).

All my covers are hi-res jpg.

Are they saved in the file tags? If not, where/how are they saved? It sounds like G-Force is finding an album thumbnail (folder.jpg?), but not your actual covers. :-\

All my album covers are named folder.jpg and placed in album's folders. Not in the tags.

The file structure is: Artist\Year - Album\Track# - Name.

Again, when I double-click or press skip, it's alright (the cover art is there).  When I wait for the song to end, the next one is only showing the text infos (not the cover art).

I tried different cross-fade settings to see if that's related.  Nope. Same thing.

If I remove a cover from the next file to play, G-Force will display the MC icon and not folder.jpg. I suspect it's only able to display covers saved in the files.

None of my art is inside files and they all work fine with gforce...

BUT:

I have noticed that gforce does not like hi-res images. I've never bothered to chase it down precisely, but can tell you that it refused to display art that was 1400 x 1400, and after I'd resized it to 999 x 999 gforce quite happily displayed the artwork.

bilbo, perhaps that's something you could test at your end? If you find you have the same experience, it could help you when it comes to dealing with Soundspectrum.

Rick, I only have a handful of albums without art here, and I've noticed that when GForce displays the MC logo for those tracks, there is a little square box in the top right and bottom left corners of the logo, makes it look ugly, like there's chunks missing out of it...

Does GForce display the logo correctly for you?

No. A shocking defacement of the trademark, I thought. It caused me to immediately replace the cover. ;)
