Starting|PLS|from|PLS|Scratch
« on: June 18, 2002, 08:31:57 am »

Hi - This is my first post, but I have enjoyed observing the helpfullness of this forum. I have just replaced my motherboard and I am in the process of reinstalling all of the software on my computer including the operating system (W98SE). My machine has both CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives. After I install MJ8, I know that I will be able to burn CDs, but what other software will I need to use rewriteable disks and to play DVDs? Will I need any other media players? If so, what order should they be installed? Thanks for any other advice regarding new installs.

Hi Gator, and welcome.

I'm pretty sure that MJ can take care of all your needs.  I recently had to replace my HD and had to reload everything as well.  It was a great oppertunity to get rid of a lot of junk that was collecting cob webs on my PC.  I have been ripping and burning with no other external programs.  If you are ripping to MP3s, you will need to go to the Plug-ins page here and get the Lame MP3 encoder.  That should be all.
Good Luck.

btw: are you the same Gator from SQ2?

Could you help? When I rip a CD the files are extracted as .WMA.
I do not find an MP3 option in OPTIONS/ENCODING even though I downloaded and installed the plug-in. Files Enc_mp3.dll and rc_x10mp3.dll install without fault message. File in_mp3.dll returns the message "ONLY INPUT VISUALIZATION AND DSP PLUGIN CAN BE ADDED".
Which file do I use and how do I go about?

Hi Ivan,
When you are ready to rip a CD, click on settings/options  (or ctrl O).
Then select the encoding catagory (icons on the left side of the options window).
In the Encoder Type & Quality section, click on the link for the Encoders Plugin Page.
Select and download the MP3 Lame encoder.

When you are ready to rip the CD, go to the options/encoder and select the Lame encoder you want and the bitrate to use.

Enjoy,
Chico

Hi Gator,

MJ takes care of all your needs to put music on CD/ and CDRW

for CDRW for non music use, I reccomend DirectCD, It is from Roxio (was Adaptect) and it normally is boundled with most drives. Otherwise it's included in the Easy CD Creator package

And for DVD, MJ neeeds a MPEG decoder installed on the system. Again that normally comes with the boundled sw with your DVD drive. I think somebody posted a few days ago a link to a free decoder in case youdo not have any sw. Search Interact for DVD and MPEG
