AVCHD (.mts) files are taking a long time to start.
« on: November 26, 2010, 02:39:01 am »

10-12 seconds.

MKVs start pretty quickly. Any tricks to get this working?

Mate - post your filter info, I'd say your splitter is giving you grief.

All looks pretty std to to me MTS --> Haali --> MS Video / FFDSHOW Audio --> EVR / DirectSound.

In the direct show config (tools --> Options --> file types --> MTS --> JRiver video engine (useing DirectShow filters)), try selecting another Source Filter if you have one like:
"Nero" or "MPC - MPG Source (Gabest)".

FYI - I changed to the same filter set as your and I the files opens/plays in under 2sec and thumbnail generations is fine.

This is one is the Full "Haali Splitter" - you may want to try this one in the JR Options

The files are still taking  a long time to start (>10 seconds)

Any more suggestions? I have tried several source filters.

Let me just add that this is a library client PC. I've ticked "Play files locally if they can be found", or whatever the option is called, under Options\network.

I've the same LS Setup and they are fine for me.  One Q - is it slow the 2nd time you play it? (eg could the lag be the server waking up the HDD).....

I see no difference in startup time the second time around.

Btw, I've been using Logmein to log onto the client. When I dump the splitter info, could it be that I'm seeing another video chain?

Try LAVSplitter - http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191 and see how it goes

Try LAVSplitter - http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=156191 and see how it goes

The LAVSplitter install failed. The project has the look and feel of prototype so I think I'll not pursue that track any further. I was also unable to find out if LAVSplitter really supports MTS/AVCHD.

The strange thing is that FFDSHOW supports mts files. Am I seeing bad performance in ffdshow, maybe?

It is the job of the file source/splitter filter to open the files and "split out" the Video and Audio to track (eg to FFDSHOW) that then decodes these and passes the decoded streams to the renderers.  The Splitter also handles the navigation requests (eg Play, Pause, FFD etc)  So it is the splitter that has to like the MTS file type, then FFDSHOW to decode the x264 / DD stream in it.

I don't know why you system is slow for these file type (use "MediaInfo" to grab some more info of these file type and post it perhaps).

Also LAVSplitter is very well developed and if it is not installing it will be one of two things:
1) You have not yet installed "Binaries built by me currently require the VC++2010 Runtime (download 32-bit & 64-bit)"
2) You have to run the install as an administrator

Thanks for the clarification. I obviously need to read up on this.

Also LAVSplitter is very well developed and if it is not installing it will be one of two things:
1) You have not yet installed "Binaries built by me currently require the VC++2010 Runtime (download 32-bit & 64-bit)"
2) You have to run the install as an administrator

I installed as admin but missed out on the binaries. I'll try again.
