Renderer on Sony kdl TV
« on: November 27, 2010, 09:36:43 pm »

DLNA access on tv ok now since fewer weeks & some settings as dlna & dlnaExtra checking in dlna server options for my Sony kdl xxv5500 tv; many thanks for that.
Next usage is to control tv from my computer with the renderer; it's easier to do that vs the opposite.
So, i can send pictures to tv & that's all; no music, neither video.
i try a lot of tests but i'm short of ideas now, someone interesting to help ?

Hi - I have a Sony KDL-V5500 with integral DLNA 1.5 client. Sony claim full DLNA compatibility but this is BS because it will not play MP3 music or AVI video. Buried deep in Sonys support site is a statement that says that the only compatible video formats are AVCHD, HDV and MPEG 2-PS so as much use as tits on a bull. So I have to use my PS3 as the DLNA client.

Its DLNA support does seem very limited. It could be because it doesn't take much processing power to decode an mpeg2 stream and they are using pretty simple hardware for it.

You could try turning on video conversion in the DLNA server and set the encoder to "MPEG2/DVD stream". That will produce a mpeg-ps stream. According to your links that has a good chance of playing.

Also, I can't see why it doesn't play mp3's. Very odd.

Thanks for answer bob.

Strange behaviour now but i progress with dlna with a lot of tests...
  • For direct access with my tv, i check "x always convert" but some don't want to be read, for example .ts (tv recordings).
  • For rendering options, it's better now, it seems i can read some but never the one i choose, it's always the same video reading ! choice is very limited...  (no error anywhere)

Note : for decoder, i choose mpeg2 medium bandwith against mpeg2/dvd because i had some freeze on reading.
dlna functions seems to be very painfull. Fortunately i have a laptop connected to my tv (hdmi). Easier but not only benefits...

And yeah, it's snowing now in Paris (France), i hope a lot !
Have a good day.
