Is the AverTV Hybrid Volar HD USB Stick supported?
« on: November 29, 2010, 03:17:27 pm »

I just bought a TV Tuner USB stick, the model AverTV Hybrid Volar HD. It supports DVB-T and Analog TV and captures to H.264. I live in Switzerland and the AverTV software works flawlessly for analog TV and radio. But now I would like to make it work within MC15.

Now, MC15 recognizes some built-in Windows 7 driver such as AverMedia USB Polaris Series Capture Driver and AverMedia USB Polaris Digital Tuner. But in Hardware Manager I see the driver AverMedia H830 USB Hybrid DVB-T. I don't think they are the same drivers as the default one does not find any channels. I am only interested in the analog channels.

Is there a way to delete the Aver Media Polaris drivers in MC15 and apply the H830 driver? I remember many moons ago, there was a button to reset all TV settings! Is that button still around?

The Reset button is no longer available and probably would not help you much.

It is normal to see different names in Device Manager and in MC.  They are rarely the same.  Don't worry about the name discrepancy.

Whether the device is supported depends on what the device do, and what TV stations do in your country (or what TV standard is in your country).  If the digital TV standard in your country is DVB-T using MPEG-2 Video and MPEG-2/AC3 audio, then chances are your device will work.  On the other hand, if the TV signal broadcast in MPEG-4 video, we may not be able to handle it.  There is also question of whether DVB-T2 standard is used.
