How to set "Remove duplicates of" on a View?

Is there any way to set "Remove duplicates of" on a View? Rather than e.g. a Smartlist.

Customize View > Options > Advanced > Set rules for file display...  Modify Results: Remove duplicates of ...

I find a snag. The removal seems to occur before the search rather than after. This has unfortunate consequences. E.g. if the list contains just one album of non-duplicates, tracks are missing if they have duplicates that are outside the search. So it is often impossible to see e.g. a full album e.g. on the full list, pick one track and click the Album arrow.

Except by changing view, of course.

Any better workaround?
