WDTV LIVE PLUS as DLNA
« on: December 16, 2010, 09:20:55 pm »

As my attempts to use Airport Express as a dlna renderer ( player) in another zone I have decided to try to use the WD, WDTV Live Plus.

MC15 sees the WDTV device and streams to it, but after a few songs MC15 hangs and freezes.

DLNA options are on.

What should I do?

Current firmware?
On the same net segment?
Wireless or wired?
Are you pushing to it or pulling from it?
File types you are trying to play (are they transcoding?) The WD doesn't really need anything transcoded, you could turn off all audio conversion in MC's DLNA server.

We've got one here and it's really reliable...

Current firmware?
I just upgraded to 169 from 167.

YES
Wireless or wired?
WIRELESS

PUSHING

CONVERSION OFF pushing FLAC.

Using Library Server, not DLNA Media Server connection.

It appears to bre reliable if I stream from my laptop library to WDTV, probleam appears to be when my laptop is connected to my server library and the laptop "orders" streaming from that server library to the WDTV. ??

Bob meant the firmware for the device.  On one of the WD menus, you'll find something like "check for firmware update".

Mine's about the same, 1.04.10_V

You should have the DLNA server enabled on your library server machine. That is the one we want serving the content. On that library server machine, make sure audio conversion is turned off for the DLNA server.
Then on the MC controller PC, use the There: WDTV zone to play to.
