Library Settings Restore Issue & Solution
« on: December 17, 2010, 09:50:00 am »

Restoring user settings in a library backup using Media Center 15.0.163 (12/7/2010) through Media Center 15.0.168 (12/15/2010) would fail.

This has been corrected in Media Center 15.0.169 and newer.  You can get 15.0.169 here:

If you experienced this problem, you can simply install 15.0.169 (or newer) and restore any previously created library backup.

There was a change introduced in Media Center 15.0.160 (12/1/2010) that makes it unsafe to restore user settings from a new build (160 and newer) to an old build (before 160).

To say this another way, this is only relevant if you are trying to roll back to an older build (which we don't recommend).

That is because of this change:
Changed: Reworked how paths are stored in options so that they are user account relative when possible.

As an example, the settings now contain things like:
[App Data Path]Temp\

Instead of this:
C:\Users\Matt\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 15\Temp

This makes moving settings between different user accounts or operating systems more robust.
