Find&Replace
« on: January 02, 2011, 06:10:58 pm »

I’m using the Find&Replace to modify a couple of titles.

If I want to change
Sonata for Pianoforte and Violoncello in F Major/ Op. 5/ No. 1 - I. Adagio sostenuto.
to
I. Adagio sostenuto.

I do:
F2 the field
select the “Sonata for Pianoforte and Violoncello in F Major/ Op. 5/ No. 1 –“
Copy the selection
Tools or Right click  >
Library Tools >
Find & Replace
Paste
OK

A lot of clicks

Ok close the dialog.
If I want to do a second edit on the same lines I have to go through Tools > Library Tools > Find & Replace again.
An Apply button would be convenient.

A lot of editors have the very convenient option when opening the Find/Replace dialog, the selected text is in the From field.
Would be great if in F2 or a click on a field populates the “Find What”

A lot of dialogs in MC have the checked fields on top.
Would be convenient if Find & Replace would show the checked fields on top too.
Now you have to browse the entire list to find out which fields are affected.

Thanks
Vincent

+1 for an apply button. I often tag 500 - 1000 video files at a time and it's a pain to have to keep going back to "find and replace". Great idea.

You know that you get the most recently used commands with right click, right? You can set this to 8 last commands, under General options. That would mean a lot less clicks at least. It also means that you need a mouse, but who does not use that when tagging?? :)

Thanks, saves a couple of clicks.

BTW: the option is in Tree&View > Advanced

Thanks, yes I was aware of that. I use it a lot, and wish that there were more than just 8 slots. However, it's still tiresome for find and replace when there's a lot of finding and replacing to do!
