Topic: MC15 crashes after Installation IE9 RC (Read 7921 times)

Installed InternetExplorer IE9 RC today.

MC15:
Severeral tabs with different pane-views, active ist the most right tab.
As soon as I click 'Start' in the tree, MC15 crashes.

(Default browser is FireFox 3.6.13)

Any idea what to do?

As much as I can tell, everthing works fine with IE9.

Righto! MC crashed on me too after installing IE9 RC, but then I reloaded MC and it worked just fine thereafter. Everything else is working okay.

Or did you change something else?

Unfortunately MC15 keeps crashing here, even after a reboot.

No, I just restarted MC and it worked fine, at least for playing music.

Mine is crashing too all the time after installing IE 9 RC. It always crashes when it loads very specific panes, like the Playlist panes, the Performer Store pane, etc.

Mine is crashing as well. Will not even start, really. I get the splash screen and then it crashes.

I've uninstalled MC15, ran CCleaner on the Registry, then rebooted, then reinstalled. Still crashing just the same.

What to do?

Unless the guys here have a workaround, I'd have thought an un-install of IE9 is the obvious next step. Is that not possible?

I fiddled with the preferences a little and when you have it start in the Audio section automatically and turn off splash screen, the program starts just fine. You just have to be careful where to click after (ie Playlist tab) that coz it will crash the program.

I just installed IE9 last night, so I guess I will have the same issues. I will follow this thread and if I have any to contribute I will (works - don't work - etc.). I'm expecting I will have to uninstall IE9. I guess I should have expected this from Microsoft. Their new browsers should not create compatibility issues.

Confirmed on both Windows 7 x32 and x64 versions. Both crash when you go into the playlists or web related pages. Like others here, I have mine set not to show splash screen and go straight into Albums.

I just bumped into this with MC16...
Having played with IE9 it still feels a long way behind Chrome IMO... don't bother installing it!

I am running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Every time I tried to open MC 15 it would immediately close. I got the standard error message from Windows. I uninstalled IE 9 RC and went back to IE 8. Now, MC 15 works fine. IE 8 32 bit will not open, it used too. IE 9 RC was messing up a lot of things on my system. I set Firefox as my default browser, and things are just peachy.

No issues here with IE9 RC and MC15. Everything works as expected. I turned the splash screen off in MC long ago and even reenabled it and both IE9 RC and MC15 behave with each other.

Try clicking on playlists and see if it crashes please.

Hi folks. I am new to these forums. I have been using 14 for quite some time and purchased 15 yesterday after loving it for a couple of weeks, but I have been having the same problem after installation of IE9 this morning. The only way I can get MC to work now is run as admin and let it do some sort of reset and then it seems to work but after closing the program and try to restart back to the same issues.

Now that crashed it.

And like others I can't even open it.

What I also noticed that if you have playlists already open then you can click on individual playlists with no problems but if you click on the "Playlist" in the tree, that crashes it.

The problem is with IE9 RC, not MC.

I uninstalled IE9 and will wait for MS to fix IE before reinstalling it.

Trouble is we don't know if this is a bug with IE9, or some change in their new code that will continue to present a problem in the future because they don't consider it a bug.

I sent a bug report through IE 9 RC. The feedback tool in IE9 RC will gather all records required including the crash report. I think everyone should do the same. It even starts a tool to record a screenshot of every step it took to reproduce the problem. and there is a question that asks if this has happened with previous versions of IE.

They would be wrong.

This is a bug in IE9 RC. The prior beta version did not have this problem.

Also, they need to maintain compatibility. Things that worked with prior version should still work. If they do not maintain compatibility (with their own browsers - not FF, Safari, Chrome, etc.) users will just use the other browsers which MS wants to protect against.

On my Win7 x64 desktop with IE9 RC installed MC 15.0.174 crashes on startup.

On my Vail media server with IE9 RC installed MC 15.0.174 runs just fine.

Interesting! So who needs to fix what?

I worry though that quite a lot of software embed IE functions in their own routines which means there is not always easy escape. I use Opera by default (don't ask me why I installed IE9 - just curiosity I am afraid).

I'm having this problem too.

Windows 7 64 bit, IE 9 RC. MC 15 crashes upon startup.

On the third attempt to open the program MC will suggest running defaults and disabling plug-ins. When I left plug-ins disabled (other two boxes unchecked) , I was able to get into the program. I opened a playlist and played a track, and the program didn't crash. However, I didn't do much else so it's not much of a test.

After the program is closed and I attempt to reopen, it crashes again at the splash screen.

Same problem with MC 14.0.165, Win 7 Ultimate x64.

The Problem is definitely with IE 9 RC. Installed today and got problems right away. After failing twice MC gets around the bug and launches succesfully. The only difference I noticed is, that the "Options" button of last.fm button gets a non TT font, the grid on some lists (Downloads, last.fm) look somehow weird. But the the last.fm functions as axpected.

After closing and new launch, the "2-times error, third time OK", cycle begins once again.

Update: Uninstalling IE 9RC solves the problem. Somehow cumbersome workaround is, to rename the index.html files in the directories X:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 14\Data to something that IE does not want to process. This has of course as result, that the "Start", "Drives & Devices" etc Entry pages don't show up.

Apart from this, MC works fine. I have to say, I only do audio, no input for pictures & video. I want to use IE9 and MC 14, so for the time being, I think I have to live with it. Some day soon(hopefully) , a patch will be released, and all I have to do is to rename the index.html files.

I have Firefox set as my default browser, and I reinstalled IE 9 RC. I have the same problem as everyone else. I did not have this problem with IE 9 beta. I uninstall IE 9 RC and install IE 8, and have no problems. I hope someone at Microsoft, or J River can fix this. Personally, using IE is NOT that important to me. Firefox seems to be a lot less trouble.
