Every other piece of software, including the operating system itself is fine; it was a full snapshot restored to the same hardware, so essentially should be as if nothing was wrong, but MC starts up and after a few seconds crashes.  I did a full uninstall, including registry, followed by an install of the latest beta, but same problem persists.

Program doesn't last long enough to be able to turn on logging of any sort.

Event log shows:

Faulting application name: Media Center 16.exe, version: 16.0.39.0, time stamp: 0x4d659364
Faulting module name: Media Center 16.exe, version: 16.0.39.0, time stamp: 0x4d659364

Download v15.0.174 and that works fine...

Further, if I delete all the files in:

C:\Users\Mark Harding\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 16

The software starts, but when I restore my library is starts crashing again...

And we're back.  Deleted a bunch of cache/views from my library directory and things are working again.

Would like to know what caused the problem, but am just happy not to have lost years of work here!

sounds similiar to the issue i had except mine was with restoring version 15. (ive yet to try 16)
I have yet to get it fixed due to not having time to rebuild my os. I also used Acronis - Post is here...
Maybe something here will help you?

This is what I did:

Go to the folder and delete everything:

C:\Users\<youraccount>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 16

Then I went to my music library directory.  Grouped the folder by last modified and deleted ALL files/folders that were accessed today (the restored archive is from a couple of days back).    This should just be a few files/folders and none of the field.* files.

And it just worked.

Like I said, no idea what was causing the problem, but so relieved to be up and running again.
