possible to watch live streams of news on our desktops via display view?

curious if it's possible to watch live streams, fox news, cnn, mtv etc. via jriver on our desktop with display view mode (that way we can work and resize the window)

if so, whats needed? and how would i set my self up to accomplish this?

Ive tried windows 7 sidebar gadgets. but they just don't cut it.
