Try this:

You could try to install MSI Windows Installer manually, and then try to install .msi file:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8483

And,check your file allocations in Windows 7.Perhaps there is something wrong.

Hi dean, ive went through all 3 pages, and all of your links for setup.exe seem to be down. the only link of yours i can click on is http://www.mediafire.com/?umcutiluaapebgb which is a .msi file.

Where do i find the setup files?

thanks for your assistance

This is the correct link. You just run the .msi and should kick off the install. If you have Windows 7 it should have Windows Installer (.msi) enabled by default. Windows Installer has been available since Windows 2000.

well ive spent literally days trying to implement my vfd with jriver when i purchased my case (4 years ago, via posts here, and imon) no go. and ive now spent at least 6 hours the last 2 days trying to get this 446kb .msi file to be an installer and not a word doc. i give up. it's not worth my time. i have now tried all pc's in the house 11 of the 12 pc's all show as doc. all of them install proggies with no issue. ive never ran across a .msi file. so unsure if .msi has ever worked. but from the amount of pc's i have and all of them showing as a doc, and all running flawlessly im not about to mess up my registry and or download 50 items from microsoft install/uninstall etc.

looked promising though. thanks for your efforts.

@xtacbyme

Very strange problem.Never had any problems with .msi setup files and Windows 7. ?

try dean70's suggestion.

I think you have a similar problem like this guy:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116592
.msi files only opened with a file extractor.
Solution:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html
Like i said before: A file association problem.
This could affect all your pc's if they all have the same programm installed, who "hijacked" .msi file association.

Start menu, type cmd in the search box, press enter, type "msiexec /i " (without the quotes & include space at end), then drag the .msi file you saved on the desktop into the black cmd window & it will compete the command. Press enter to run it.

Install the old version from mib4755 + Edited files from Sunfire7 for iMonLCD Version.

mib4755 AnyVFD Version:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=63181.msg503646#msg503646
Source Code and Install included.

Sunfire7 edited files:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=63181.msg503891#msg503891

-Uninstall the Plugin from dean70.Look in the Plugin Folder,to be sure that all files are really gone.
-Then install mib4755 Version of AnyVFD Plugin.It is a normal Setup.exe. ;D
-After that copy/overwrite over the edited files from Sunfire7 for iMonLCD in the Plugin Folder.
-Then it should work with the LCD Version.

for the 1st time since i bought this case. i have jriver on LCD screen :) so happy, what an improvement!

it is very buggy on my system. scrolling locked up after install and then after reboot everytime jriver is running i get an exception error making jriver unusable. (if i chose continue, or X it just keeps popping up. only way to get rid of it is to uninstall, or click fast on dialog until jriver crashes)

Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

That is a little problem with the old plugin. It's a little buggy.
This crash i know myself, but it should happen only in rare cases, not all the time.
You don't need to uninstall it,when it happens.Kill MC with Task Manager,Move iMon VFD Plugin out of the Plugin Folder.
Restart MC.Message pops up "Can't find iMon VFD,....".Ignore.Play at least one different file for a few seconds.(Not the last one, when mc crashed)Exit MC.
Copy iMon VFD Folder back to Plugins.Start MC again.

Bad for you that mib4755 stopped developing the plugin.Perhaps you could ask sunfire7, if he could edit the files from dean70's plugin for LCD Version. But he needs the Source Files from dean70,i think.

That's a little problem.Equalizer works for me.Directly from soundgraph software.But only without AnyVFD Plugin.And then,No Info's from MC.
You have to decide.....

AnyVFD Plugin Developer mib4755 once said, too complicated to implement it in the plugin itself.
Sorry.

I think it was just changing a couple of lines for LCD - I can try changing it & I will post up an LCD version (I cant promise anything - I have nothing to test it on).

edit: I am progressing on the next version that covers multiple media types - a bit more work with a full revamp and code has blown out to 3 times the size.

Yes,exactly. But you must not use any audio output mode with MC,that bypasses the windows audio system, like Bitstreaming.
This won't work. With Direct Sound the Equalizer works fine.

Just to regurgitate a couple salient points ...

I also had the DOC issue with the windows installer download. Easy enough fix ... just edit the file name and remove the .DOC and it automagically becomes an MSI file. From there, it all went seamlessly. Not sure why the .DOC is added - I suspect some overzealous firewall trying to protect us all from disaster. As common as the problem seems to be, I expect it's at the download server.

Also, in my case anyway, the VFD plugin didn't show up in the SERVICES & PLUGINS list in MC. I had to manually tag it to SHOW from OPTIONS/SERVICES/MANAGE INTERFACE PLUGINS ... once it shows in the plug in list, click it and have fun. I put all the tag info in the first line (hold down CTRL while selecting tags) with scroll set to 300, and check time display for elapsed time in the second line. Pretty slick.

And worth repeating. I went thru a few different versions of the IMON Manager and finally got it to work consistently using v8.12.1202 with PlugIn mode checked under OPTIONS.

Hope that helps ...

I have an idea!

Dean, now that you integrate display views for different media-subtypes,is it possible to add a feature, that activates/deactivates the plugin for a specific media-subtype?
Starting an audio file, for example, should deactivate AnyVFD ,to use the iMon Manager Equalizer for music.
Starting a Video/TV Show activates the plugin again.
And the ability to select media-subtype where the plugin should get activated/deactivated.
When nothing is playing,Informations should stay alive, like it is now.

Or is it possible to loopthrough the equalizer display from iMon to AnyVFD with the selected media-subtype?
Or implement MC Equalizer in AnyVFD.Would be better, because all audio modes would work, not only direct sound.

If something like this could be possible, this would be GREAT!!!

It is something I could look into. If you release the iMon COM interface, the iMon display falls back to Auto mode, which can be set to show the equalizer.

You want eq display, hard to beat G-Force or Aeon ...

(Don't mind me - just getting my post count up) <G>

It does seem like a lot of grief in some cases to get two lines scrolling ... then again, some of the displays come in nice boxes ... here's mine ...

After what I put out for the case, I wasn't about to settle for a 30 pound digital clock.

Thanks for posting your sources Dean.  Well, I'm not able to modify it at the moment because I don't have enough space on the windows partition of my server to install Visual Studio, Any of you knows a free way to expand/change the size of my partition?? I tried the built-in windows disc administrator and acronis disk director without success..

Try GParted.It's Freeware.

And has a Live CD/USB Version,too.

Or try Discpart with CMD.Built-in Windows Disc-Part is also a powerful tool,if you use it with Command Line parameters.

Now i have to wait for Sunfire, too.Just set up my new HTPC with LianLi Case and a new Soundgraph Ultra Bay.Just to see, that this Display is......LCD. >:(

In the meanwhile i use mib4755's version + Sunfire7 files, but dean's version is simply better and "crashfree".

Edit:
I don't like the LCD version of the imon display.I think i put ImonVFD back in the LianLi Case.
Display not readable,if you have the wrong perspective. If you stand too close infront of the display, for example.
Bad backlight,only "one line display".................

I don't like the LCD version of the imon display.I think i put ImonVFD back in the LianLi Case.

Ah, progress! Ain't it grand?

I've got the VFD in my Thermaltake Bach Media case and it's very readable. Only thing I noticed ... it was "broken" for a long time before I figured out how to control it from MC, showing only the standard date and time display. These things apparently have a "memory" issue, because the VFD display wasn't evenly lit once I got it scrolling media info. Once it got a bit of exercise, things evened out and it looks great now, even after it's been doing the static clock thing for a couple days when the computer is shut down.

Hi, Dean

Did you have some time for your imon VFD Project?

Only a Question,you don't need to hurry.

I picked up an iMON UltraBay yesterday and started work on a C# plugin for it. I think this is the same LCD everybody was asking about.

Is there still any interest or were you guys talking about the large touchscreen LCD?

Sorry for the delay. Got caught up with work, Heartbleed, and some other side projects. Here's what I have so far. It's written in C#. You'll need .NET 4.0 and the iMon Manager running (plugin mode enabled) for this to work. It's pretty basic and non-configurable, but it makes use of just about everything on the display except for the EQ bars.
