Can't get Library Server for 16.0.81 to work
« on: May 09, 2011, 12:04:41 am »

I just downloaded 16.0.81 and I can't get the Library Server to work.  It works fine for me on 15.0.174.  I read the relevant theads and tried the various fixes offered to no avail.  I have:

Server:
1.) rebooted both machines.
2.) check marked -  media network to share
3.) checked marked -  media server on windows startup (shows in tray)
4.) reset key, copied to clipboard.
5.) left 16 minimized, with media file served open.
6.) Set Windows Firewall to allow program (prior).

Client:
1.) Library Manager/add library ---> Name: Tried -  file name, computer name, nothing.
2.) Library Manager/add library ---> Access key or URL: I pasted key.  Also tried URL that works for me in 15:  192.168.0.101.52199
3.) Set windows Firewall to allow program (prior).

I always get this error screen: Error loading library.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

If the firewall was open for MC15, you will have to do it again for MC16.

Both sides must have the same build of MC16.

Try setting the login and password on the server and entering it on the client.

Are you sure that the IP address you have tried (192.168.0.101) is always the same for the computer where your library server is located or is it given via DHCP by your box?

If your computer have a name you can try to type URL such as: computername:52199, no more problem if IP address given by DHCP changes.

I had a similar problem after installing 16.0.81 this evening.  I had to delete MC 15 from memory to get rid of the message that the server could not load.  My questions are:

- What's the purpose of Authentication user name and password?
- Seems I forgot how to connect the client to the Library Server. Am I adding a Library or just connecting to the Library Server?

I checked that the firewall was open on both sides for MC16 and extenders - it was.

Both sides have 16.0.81.

If by "setting the log in and password on the server..." you mean turning on Authentication on the server - I tried that but was never asked to use it on the client.  Or do you mean setting a password for Windows itself?  If so I have one on the client computer but not the server computer.

Thanks!

Domi -

I tried computername:52199.  Neat!  Didn't know that you could do that.  Thanks!  Still didn't work though.

PaulZ -

I have been closing both MC15 sessions (server & client) so the MC15 server was closed, and then the MC16 server would open without error.  Without being able to get the server working in MC16 I wouldn't want to delete MC15 - with my setup I wouldn't have any music!

I don't find the "connect to library" menu option from MC15 carried over to MC16 - it appears that "add library" is the way you do this in MC16 - but so far I have not been able to get it to work.

That's what I meant.  It should ask on the client.  We had a similar problem a few weeks ago and the user solved it by clearing a cache in their browser or something similar.  Try connecting from a different machine, just to test.

Hello.

I think I have the same problem:

I used to listen music from library server with MC 15, without any problems.

Now MC 16.0.81 is set as a library server, on my computer at home.

Web remote and Webplay are working fine from another location (not in lan), on PC or iPhone, so I have no network problem (port, firewall, etc...)

At work, I would like to use a portable installation of MC on an USB key as a client.

I have set the Authentication on.
The access key feature doesn't work.
I tried to connect ( Add Library.../etc... ) and then no login is required.
There isn't any error message, as if the library was loaded.
But library views are still empty, and nothing is downloaded from the server, and I cannot access any media...

Thank you if you have a solution.
