OFF-freeware/spyware

Just thinking about it
If you give away free Media Jukebox to millions people with one or more spywares on it
Would you make more money than selling it to this same millions people ?

Not any suggestion-it would be insult you -
Just wondering about it:that many programs WANT to be free, cause they made more money with spywares, than if selling the software?

I agree.
Spyware wreaks to me of non professional or cheap software, not the kind of quality of MJ.

Glad it didn't touch that avenue.
Only way I could think this avenue might be at all good is possibly like I think it was getright where you got add's for the free version to help pay for it and then registering it removed the add's.

Might help to generate money when your program is used even if it's not registered.

And to JimH - I hear your the CEO of the company (read it in another post).
Gotta give you lots and lots and lots of respect if you are for being this closely involved with your customers.
If I ever get really rich I'm gonna hire you as a manager for me.
This kind of hands on approach is rare and nice.

Would you not be doing what all the others do?

Hello Zev, glad you're back !

About giving MJ for free with a Spyware in it, I don't really like the
idea.

I was thinking about something else, but not on the free side.
MJ costs roughly $25 today why don't you make it $28 or $30 and give
a dollar or two to a humanitarian/charity cause of the buyer's choice
for each license sold ? For example UNICEF, Red Cross, African aid, Hope, etc..
Of course you'd advertise about that saying for example, that MJ cares not
only for its business but for people.
This could reflect the friendly and solidarity feeling among the MJ8 community.

Jim, what d'you think ?

Cmagic,
It's a nice idea.  I imagine we'd be accused of gaining fame by using people who were in need.  Still...

I think Zevele's question was just out of curiosity.  I don't think he meant we should consider it.

Hope you were nice to our President the other day.

RhinoBangas solution with AlbumView is to put a link to a charity website in the About dialog. No pressure, no conditions on the user, just an opportunity. Nowadays I click on this once in a while as Im using MJ. Perhaps you might consider this - you wouldnt even need to advertise it. I agree that businesses advertising how caring and charitable they are can raise the hackles of cynics like me, but I for one would not object to a JRiver recommended cause being promoted in this small way. Every little helps, as they say.

Maybe there are causes suitable for promotion by JRiver in this way which would sit with MJ more comfortably. For instance in the UK there is the Nordoff-Robbins trust, which provides music therapy to disabled and ill children and adults. Its not quite a perfect match, but there may be others. Given the MJ logo you could support Surfers Against Sewage! (A UK pressure group campaigning for cleaner oceans).

Jim,

About the visit of President Bush last week-end, we didn't really have the opportunity
of beeing nice or not to him since he travelled in a no man's bubble !
I mean when he arrived to Paris on sunday all the streets, road, bus and tubes were
blocked and stopped in a radius of one mile around. Never seen that before !
I had to drive a 10 miles detour to go and pick my son at a train station (Gare du Nord).
I should have checked Mr Bush timetable before buying my son's train ticket !

Anyway, I think Mr Bush visit went Ok on memorial day.

At the moment french folks are more concerned about the forthcoming soccer world cup !

Or my english is very bad,or people read every other word only.
I DID NOT say to JRiver to be free with spywares

I am on the Media Jukebox forum and my question was more to JimH-he may have a better understanding about it than us-
Because of it i took Media Jukebox as an exemple

And i said:
"not a sugestion[from me to put spywares],it would be insult you[=JimH and his staff]

It is just that i see that some free programs with spywares are very very good programs
If to sell,i am sure they will sell quite well
I was thinking that maybe they do more money with spywares than if they sell the software

From this, my question to JimH
A-Few millions Media Jukebox free with spywares[i mean full version]
or
B-Few millions Media Jukebox sell to people

You would do more money with option A or option B?

Zevele,
I don't know whether spyware could be more profitable, but we wouldn't do it in any case.  I think it is unethical.  Same for buying millions of email addresses to send spam.

We're going to make it the old fashioned way -- by working hard and providing good value.  Sounds kind of naiive, doesn't it?  Tough.  That's what we're doing.

wahooo!!

Glad to see your a clean hard worker and not into making a buck at anyone's expense.
Glad I bought MJ not just cause I love it but also cause it'll give u more reasons to not try to shove rubbish into great software.

I think your gonna make millions, all of you guys.
While you focus on just making the software as amazing as possible and dont worry about spyware, monitoring our use, pirating (I know you obviously worry about this a bit), I can see you making a fortune because your software is going to become as popular as stuff like MS Office and so your going to have a HUGE user base.

When it's finished (v8),
if you gimme some sales info and other waffle on it I'll send it to the UK computer magazines for you if you want.
I know they're gonna love it and give you guys a really high rating for it.
Would you be up for letting them put it on their cover disk too?
Once people install and test it I'd imagine they'll all want to keep it after the 30 days are up.

Naiive? If to do the things as they must be done is naiive,in this case yes

It will pay off.People more and more understand what is going on with all the spyware, adware stuff. They see that free got another meaning since birth of the internet

Concerning the Nila's posts
You may try to contact computer magazines in countrys that are allmost bilangual[?]
I mean Holland,Denmark,Norway,Sweeden,finland,even here
I have MJ 5 on a cd from an Israeli computer magazine. The moving icone was quitte nice

Congratulation and good luck
