MJ locks up when idle for long time
« on: May 28, 2002, 01:41:50 pm »

Can anyone else duplicate this problem?

It seems if MJ is open and inactive(no songs or ripping) approx. 1hour it locks up my system and I have to reboot computer to bring my system back.

It does not occur if MJ is closed. If MJ is idle for 1 hour or more. This has been going on for a few builds now. I have left other programs open or I have left computer idle in desktop and it does not happen.

Can you relate the problem to use of Slide Show, Album View, DFX, skins, etc.?

Thanks Jim for the quick reponse!

Using Mega-me Green Eyes
NO DFX
NO Album view
NO Slide show
Track info: DJ, but is hidden
DSP Equalizer is on

I will be watching the NBA game tonight, GO SACRAMENTO KINGS! all the way to the NBA finals.
I will let MJ sit idle just to confirm these settings and try others and get back to you on the results.

I didn't have MJ lock-up, but have had it get considerably slower when sitting idle for about an hour or so. It also closed very slowly. Not the instant 'gone' when clicking the close button. Downloading the latest now. Will see if it does the same.

Both those problems could be a Windows memory leak.

We had a thread a while back on Rambooster.  You can find the program with a search at google I imagine.

Rambooster recovers memory.  It's a good thing.

Have noticed some of the same behavior in recent builds. Will try to recreate symptoms.

First, Rambooster itself has been behaving oddly. it is constantly optimizing, often hangs while doing so till I have to terminate with C-A-D. Practically unusable while MJ is open. Don't have the same problems with MJ closed.

MJ also opens very slowly, and takes longer than previously to find and initiate file playback. Sometimes freezes in the midst of a long playlist.

Strange plug-in behavior. I have installed Enhance (amongst others), and it opens automatically with MJ, can't get rid of it, breeds like rabbits, pops up all over the place, covers up the open window or program (in this case, MJ itself). When I close it out (in DSP Studio), small fragments remain scattered around the  screen. Moving the mouse over them often will bring the underlying window into view. The problem with Enhance is the worst, but it occasionally happens with other plug-ins too. This is very new in the last 3-4 builds, starting around 280, maybe a little earlier.

System is an older PII/466mhz/160meg/40G drive (nearly full). Am in office and don't have full system info at hand. Video driver may be part of it. Can't find an update, and Intel doesn't support the original any more. Also, slide show installed, but haven't been able to correlate frequency of problems with use/non-use of Slide Show.

Quite disruptive. Any ideas?

Thanks.

HTH,
Make sure you have the latest build of slide show.  We did have stability problems in early ones.

What is "Enhance"?  Sounds like something that would arrive in your mailbox in a plain brown wrapper.

I disabled skins and let MJ sit idle and I had no problem with MJ.  It worked great!  Must be something in the Mega-me skin Green eyes. That is a guess since I am not a programer!  I will try Tenko and Z skins.

To be continued............

hey, if its good enough for Bob Dole and Rafael Palmiero, its good enough for me. Even better than rhino horn.

Dropped the "r" - should be "Enhancer" - one of your plug-ins.
