i think i may have figured out my gizmo disconnection issues
« on: August 26, 2011, 02:15:34 am »

gizmo was really flacky today, tonight now i been trying to connect for over 1/2 hour, all pc's clients were seeing jriver, all windows network connections/shares were working, all printers were working, my phone's internet was working, data, but gizmo could not find the server via wifi or via 4G.

I then went to server, and chose test connection to jriver server, immediately it said i was registered, then i went back to gizmo and instantly it connected me.

I'm not sure how gizmo works, but im taking a shot in the dark... is gizmo like cellphones how one should always power down a cell phone every few weeks in order to be picked up "fresh"  (as Tmobile/Att & T have mentioned) again.. so one can be on top of the network?

am i maybe getting lost in the servers registration? i've been pushed down so far, that connection isnt as good?
Dunno i may be shooting the dark, But it fixed it immediately.

Thanks for any opinions

My guess the problem was not at the Gizmo end but at the MC16 server PC end. Specifically WAN/LAN IP address change of the MC16 server PC.

I suspect that your external WAN IP address must have changed and/or local IP address must have changed since starting MC16. If this happens, then the association between the MC16 key (the one that is 6 characters long with upper-lower case letters) and your WAN/LAN IP address is broken. Restarting MC16 or testing the connection to JRiver server "re-registers" this association. Gizmo will work then.

This is not perfect system but work fairly well. I am not sure how often MC16 re-registers WAN/LAN IP address changes. But, I believe that it always does that when starting MC16. Matt/Jim can tell us for sure.
