I'm trying to make an expression, but I'm so lost that it hurts. Even with the Wiki pages, there is little hope of success. I hope some of you can help.
I want to create one or two fields that constantly updates its values based on Number Plays in all episodes of a Season and Series (TV Shows).

Data
TV Show: Entourage
Seasons: 5
Total Episodes: 112
Total Watched: 60 (above 0 Number Plays)
Watched Episodes Season 3: 12 (above 0 Number Plays)
Total number episodes Season 3: 24

Expression Result:
For Series: "60 of 112"
Seasons: "12 of 24"

Sorry MrH, but this can't currently be done.

From the overview on the "Expressions" page:
Quote
Any given expression can only work on any given single file. It is not possible to compare a field in one file with a field in another file.
Batch file operations are possible, and when used in a list, even a grouped list, an expression will be applied to each individual file in turn, not as a group.

Likewise, it's not possible to count across files either. You may have seen my comments regarding this in another post, in another thread.

Regards,
-marko

Darn. That was what I was afraid of.... Oh well. Have to think of something else then.

That would be called Statistics. What would be the biggest obstacle to introduce it?

MrHaugen... That ep. count is funny... even with Specials :)

Yea. It would be handy in some cases. It would probably be easier to use too, than to introduce new relational fields for this kinds of things.

Hmmm. What's so funny with my episode counting?   :-\

I agree. I love stats. The bigger a library becomes the more representative it is for showing distribution of a set of data, trends, etc. Or, more down to Earth, showing how your tastes shape up in time (that many/that year/that genre, etc.) and where the user is in relation to the content available (watched vs not watched and the likes). While a more comprehensive statistical approach may be too much for most (but at some point MC could have a section devoted to this, with graphs and stuff; look what Xobni does for Outlook), the ability to COUNT across files would be great.

There are only 96 eps for Entourage and 16 specials. That makes it 112 files but not 112 eps. All official listing have 96 eps which kind of means the specials are not counted (together). And Season 3 has 20 eps and 3 specials, so I'm not sure how you got to 24.
