When I click on a "genre", I want just a list of all the songs there, not grouped by album or artist -- it takes up so much space and makes it hard to get an overview of all the songs.

If I click on the top of the "Name" column to sort, I'm given the option to remove grouping, which gives me exactly what I want, but it's only temporary. Is there any way to make that the default?

I agree, I want to get rid of groups.  I sort by track and then by album, and then by artist.  The first by Track asks to sort without groups.  This works temporarily.  I have tried to create new views, but this does not work.
