Adobe and CS upgrade pricing changes
« on: December 15, 2011, 06:49:32 pm »

For those of you who are not aware, Adobe is changing its upgrade pricing model for CS apps.  They are moving to a subscription model.

Those on < CS5 or CS5.5 and who want to remain on the perpetual license must upgrade before the year is out.

Essentially users on older versions need to pay twice to remain on the perpetual license - once to upgrade to the current version, and soon again in 2012 when CS6 arrives.

I'd be happy if they could just make an installer that doesn't crap out all the time.

I've NEVER had so much trouble, regularly, with an install or uninstall process than I've had with the various Adobe CS packages (and that includes video card drivers in the early 2000's).  CS 5.5 was better, but I still hit issues on two different machines.

Adobe changed their mind to an extent.  They are going to offer upgrade discounts until the end of the year (once CS6 comes out).

http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/faq/upgrade-policy.html

"This offer will be available from the time CS6 is released until December 31, 2012. More details on this offer, as well as any introductory offers for existing customers to move to Creative Cloud membership, will be announced when CS6 and Creative Cloud are released later this year."

With Lightroom 4 coming out around the same time I'm not sure I care.  LR is so much better for my needs.
