Gizmo security
« on: December 16, 2011, 03:45:26 pm »

If I open a port in my firewall (be it port 80 or 52199 or something in between), will it not make my computer accessible for ill-willing individuals? Should I or can I use a ssh tunnel or something so that only my mobile can access my media server?

An open port by itself isn't of much concern; when combined with software listening on that port, not specifically designed with security in mind, then this is a potential for exploitation in that software.

SSH is designed with security in mind - if you are able to tunnel, then by all means.
