No video adjustments with Nvidia GT440
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:31:01 am »

Just realized I the video adjustments (color, sharpness, etc) in the Nvidia control center do nothing and the MC17 color controls are grayed out and also do not work. I am on 17.0.59, latest Nvidia released drivers, Win7 64 bit and using ROHQ.

I could have sworn this all worked with my ATI card under MC16, but since I have switched over to the MC17 metadata, I can't easily go back.

Is it me or is something broken here?

You can use RO Standard, color controls should be working there.

So the MC17 color controls not working is a bug in ROHQ?

I'm really confused by the Nvidia driver controls not doing anything - I swore the Catalyst Control Center video controls worked when I had a Radeon card installed even in ROHQ in MC16.

madVR is the renderer used in HQ mode.  It does not support color controls.

Hopefully it will someday.

OK - that explains the in-app color controls not working. Any idea why the Radeon CCC video color controls worked and the Nvidia driver ones don't?

Because madVR is designed not to.
Its premise is to give you the best quality, the as close as possible to the original, which means it trys to avoid any and all forced post-processing by the driver.

If you want to change/degrade your image like that, use EVR with RO Std. Otherwise, i recommend adjusting your TVs color controls instead.

I run both my HTPC and Oppo BDP-83 thru my AVR to a single HDMI input on the TV - all I was trying to do was match the picture from both since I can't set up a separate input for the HTPC. The picture from both is very close - just a slight difference in contrast/black level (the Oppo has default picture settings).

Turns out I have gotten it close enough with setting the gamma in MadVR (the only thing I apparently can adjust) to 2.15 instead of 2.20.
