Version 17 of MC has a "lifeless" sound compared to version 16?
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:58:16 pm »

I'm not convinced but there's a least one report that version 17 of MC sounds different "lifeless" compared to version 16.

http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/showthread.php/43398-J-river-CA-%28computer-Audio%29-PC-build-version-8-vs-C.A.P.S-v2.0?p=667971&viewfull=1#post667971

Is there any reason why this would be so?

Cheers.

I sure don't get a "Lifeless" sound from 17. But I have the same issue that was mentioned in that thread of volume being much lower. We go straight from sound card analog outs to power amps and I've had to run MC Volume (Internal) a lot higher recently.

Thanks Matt - I had been following that thread. These charts are copied from it:

Original MC Volume Scale
0%: silence
10%: -46 dB
25%: -27 dB
50%: -14 dB
75%: -6 dB
100%: 0 dB

You posted the following as being in a coming build. Safe to assume this is the current scale?
0%: -100 dB (silence)
10%: -55 dB
20%: -40 dB
30%: -35 dB
40%: -30 dB
50%: -25 dB
60%: -20 dB
70%: -15 dB
80%: -10 dB
90%: -5 dB
100%: 0 dB

So at 50% the volume will be 11 db down from the old way.

We previously listened at around 40-60%, now we are at 70-90% and this is not real loud.
