Netflix issues
« on: March 01, 2012, 02:09:02 pm »

I searched the forum for netflix, found that some were having the same issues I'm having so I installed 17.0.96, that fixed some of the problems.

Now what I'm seeing is in tools>options>services>manage netflix  it says that Media center is currently connected to the following Netflix account:
and it lists my account. If I go to theater view, I can go to netflix, choose a TV episode or movie, then hit play, it asks me to login, but when I try to login it just keeps coming back to the login screen.

I can log into netflix from a browser window and it works fine, just not through MC.

What am I missing?

I just noticed that MC is playing the tv episode I tried to play, I just can't see it...  It's 30 minutes in and still running but all I see is the login page.

Hit F11 a couple of times.  You need to be in Display View.

You can set up behavior under Tools/Options/General/Behavior.

When I hit F11 I go from standard view to theater view showing all the available episodes, to a screen that has the netflix login and is blurry and off color.

That sounds like a problem with video hardware.

Or a bad movie.  Did you try more than one?

Yes I've tried several, the only place it shows up is netflix. I played a movie from the HD in theater view fine and it played a tv episode from Hulu fine as well.

The PC is a HP Pavilian with 4 Gig of Ram, Athalon II x4 processor and 785G chipset.

I'm not sure about this, but when I was using Windows Media Center I had to install Microsoft Silverlight to use Netflix. Now that I use JRiver MC (and completely unistalled WMC) I have none of issues like you describe but I still have Silverlight installed. Do you have this program on your system?

Neflix uses Silverlight.  Microsoft normally takes care of installing it when needed.

I wonder if you have a European version of Windows that doesn't have Windows Media Player components installed.

IIRC Windows Media Center is turned off, Silvrelight is installed, netflix plays fine in firefox. I've been watching netflix on this computer for 2 months now.

I'll check WMC tomorrow to verify it's status.

Try playing Netflix movies with IE.

Try 17.0.98.

I tried IE and it didn't work so I upgraded to IE9, still didn't work. Changed the security settings and I can now play netflix movies in IE.

Still doesn't work through MC, it cleared up the off color page, but still asks for login information then loops back to the login page repeatedly.

That's a good clue.  Maybe it's still security settings.

So I'm assuming that MC uses IE for the browser, is there some way to set security levels through MC or does it default to what is setup in the browser?

I have set the security level slider to the lowest setting and it still doesn't work in MC.

Any other ideas?

thanks

Try clearing the browsers cache and then restarting Netflix.

I was researching your problem - and although I didn't find the answer to same issue you reported, I came across this website that might be of some help to you.

MC uses IE by default, but it can also use Chromium.  You can switch it in Tools/Options/Tree&View.

I installed Chromium and it works fine now!!  Thank you all for the help.

Last day of the free trial and I feel confident enough to buy!

Thanks again
