I have been unable to get DTS-MA 7.1 playback with MC17.  I am only able to get the 5.1 core.  I have put dtsdecoder.dll in sysWOW64, the MC17 plugins directory and the lav directory. Nothing seems to work.

I have TMT 3 and 5. I have tried the files from both (versions 1.1.0.7 and 1.1.0.. Is there a way I can tell if it is using the dtsdecoder.dll file?

Audio Path (hover the mouse over the DSP icon at the top right of the program while playing) will report the format being received.  You want it to say dts-ma.

It says: input 48kHz 32bit 6ch from source format dts

output is the same. 


I know the source is 96kHz 24bit 8ch

It does not say dts-ma

btw, I found this under player/audio path in display mode. I don't where that icon you mentioned is.

Are you playing a rip - or from a disk? How are you connected to the AVR (HDMI)?

Are you using Windows 64-bit? If not then put the dtsdecoder.dll file in the sysWOW32 folder. Also (don't know if that helps) try and erase the dtsdecoder.dll file from anywhere except the proper(i.e., the one corresponding either Windows 32- or 64-bit) sysWOW folder. That is, don't erase it from its original TMT folder

I had a similar problem(if it's indeed yours as well) where I had put the dtsdecoder.dll file in the sysWOW32 folder, but being that I used(and still uses) Windows 64-bit I was unable to retract the DTS-MA signal. I then put the dtsdecoder file in the sysWOW64 folder, and from then on it worked like a charm.

EDIT: the Audio Path is accessed in the upper right corner of your MC17 window, just below the far right side of the rectangular information window(that displays track time, artist, etc.). It is placed to the right of the two small squarish arrow "windows," and when placing your cursor above the small Audio Path sqaure here information will automatically pop up in a larger window - with input information at the top, and output info at the bottom.

It is actually not hooked up to an AVR. It is coming through my ASUS Xonar D2X.  And I am using Windows x64. I should have reported those things.

I see some posts where people say "don't worry you're getting the 7.1," but when I play trueHD 7.1, MC reports it as such so I don't know what I am getting with the DTS-MA.

I suppose I could put my ear to the side channels (after I turn off the JRSS enhancer), and check if there is anything coming out, but all the indications are that I am only getting DTS.

I will also make sure I have not left the file in any other place.

I suppose that means I am getting the dts core from the Lossless 7.1 stream.

What is it that the Audio Path tells you(both with regard to input and output)? Have you tried and rebooted?

Just to be sure, are you using Red October Standard or HQ?  Have you tried a couple movies?

Are you sure the audio stream is 7.1? What MediaInfo says? Try to use LAV-Audio under custom-mode, any difference?

I didn't know about mediainfo. Tried it out. Turns out lots of these files are only 6 channels, but still Lossless. Checked the blu-rays and the only say DTS-MA on most of the covers, and not how many channels. I don't have anydvd so I cannot check the blu-ray directly using MC. But the one file I have been messing with is definitely 8 channel 96k 24 bit (blu-ray recording of the Rachmaninov piano concertos 2 and 3). War Horse is too.

Matt, I do not get the report that you do. When I select the Audio Path I never see the dts-hd ma. After using mediainfo, I know these are dts-hd ma 8 channel. I just get the 48k 32-bit or 24-bit 6 channel dts.

I don't know if its just a typo or if it matters but the proper file is    dtsdecoderdll.dll   with two dll's.

It was named that way originally, but I must have had the file in too many places. When I saw others refer to the file as dtsdecoder.dll, I renamed it.  After removing the files in the plugins folder and left one in the sysWOW64 folder, I see now that it would not work because of the misspelling.
