some .m4a tracks show "64" for Bit Depth ?
« on: May 29, 2012, 08:15:17 pm »

Hi.  Some .m4a tracks, like the ones I recently bought from iTunes, show as 64 for Bit Depth, when they are most definitely and obviously just 16 bit.

What is the cause and remedy for this?

educational... though none of my MP3 tracks, which are definitely lossy, show 64 bit depth.  They also show 16.

I am wondering if there is perhaps an option somewhere to correctly show lossy M4a bit depth as 16 etc..

There is no "correct" bitdepth (see the link I posted).

The M4A decoder outputs 64-bit, which is good.

In a coming build:
Changed: Lossy M4A and AAC files will show a bitdepth of "16" (what the source probably was) in the library instead of "64" (what the decoder outputs).
