The author mocks the current American lifestyle while also stating it will be a terrible collapse to see that lifestyle change.

Those two viewpoints contradict.

Personally I think I could be happy with a whole lot less energy.  My parents and grandparents generations used less, and they seemed pretty happy.

Less people would help too, but I'm not ready to die yet.  In that vain, I learned the other day that there are only 5 acres of land (including Antarctica) for each person on the planet.  Yikes.

I agree we can and will make do with a lot less. We have no choice. Thermodynamics overrules everything. It would be helpful if more people understood what is going on so that we would have a better chance of a peaceful decline. Ignorance guarantees social unrest and war. Every child should be taught that $1 US (1990) = 10 mW. It explains everything.

Yeah but they were also happy to put us in the position we are now.  They may have used less energy but in turn they used leaded gas, leaded paints, asbestos.  They polluted and over-fished the water, over-cut forests here and abroad, and used DDT to control weeds.

Not that those facts change your first point.  I am sure we all could.

The more I study the situation the more it becomes clear that the only thing that really matters is how many kids you have. 0-1 good. 2 or more bad. I have 2.

You could eat one.  Almost worked for Cronus.

It doesn't matter what you do.  Wait for the food chain to break.  Once that happens there will be plenty less people.

It takes something like 2.2 to sustain a level population.  Not everyone has or can have children.

2 per family would result in a gradually declining population.

Population, not just consumption per person, is the problem, in  my opinion.  But a pandemic will probably take care of that eventually.

I'm learning to grow potatoes.

at that point I do believe people will kill almost any living animal for food, maybe even humans.

Be prepared, buy a gun now, keep your ammo in a air tight container.

Bullets don't kill zombies however, I learned that playing video games, and watching movies like "Don't Open The Window"
