Way too many channels
« on: July 03, 2012, 03:16:52 pm »

Just installed my DVB-S2 card and doing the scan. It finds way too many channels, like Channel 4 about 8 times;

Channel 4
Channel 4 (1)
Channel 4 (2)
Channel 4 (3)
Channel 4 (4)
Channel 4 (5)
Channel 4 (6)
Channel 4 (7)
Channel 4 (8)

Using 28.8E Astra a I'm in the UK. Whereas Windows Media Center on found channels available on FreeSat (which is what I want), but J River is finding every single channel available on 28.8E, including premium Sky Subscription based channels, which I don't want.

I used the Ku-Linear (Universal) band, with no Diseqc setting.

See the sticky on editing/deleting unwanted channels - it may be the easiset way to deal with this.

This is how it works, currently.  I have the same situation.

Have a look at the wiki sections on this.  I have tried to cover how to get a usable set-up.  Don't delete any channels!

Thanks guys.

I suspected that was the case but wanted to be sure. Will check out the Smartlist option.

Having a think about it, can you just do the whole lot manually?

There's probably only half a dozen channels on FreeSat that i'd actually watch, so could I just put the frequency, polarization etc in manually for each channel? Like you can do in Windows Media Center.

Yes, you can do it.  In Standard view, go to Drives & Devices > Television > TV options... > Edit Channels List.  You need to add all parameters one by one.

Adding channels this way does not give you much advantage.  It has the same effect of scanning all channels and then deleting (using smart list) unwanted ones.  Make sure you understand the discussion in this thread before doing it.
