OPtimum Optical setting with a Chord QuteHD DAC
« on: October 12, 2012, 10:58:30 am »

The recommended configuration from Chord is Kernel Streaming via USB (using their own driver), but I've got a noisly Sony PSU that makes this untenable even when the DAC is grounded via the amp.
Through optical it's quiet as expected, but what would be theoretical ideal output config for MC? I'm using WASAP-Event at the moment. The chaps at Chord didn't have an opinion on it, and suggested trying them all and using the one I preferred. Fair enough, but there might be one that you cold expect to be more accurate?

I'd recommend WASAPI - Event Style (unless the device has an ASIO driver).

Matt, it has a driver, but I don't know if it's an ASIO driver. They reccommend MC and using Kernel streaming, so I assumed it's not (ASIO).

Wasapi event works fine, I'll stick with that.

Thanks.

hi,

On the qutehd i'm currently using kernel streaming, but wasapi event style works great also.
But for this dac I really recommand the coax input.
And if u use it with asynchronous usb-spdif converter, you get rit off your pc noise, and you will be able to use 192khz and sacd..

Good call. What converters would you recommend?

Thanks

hi,

Currently I'm using the hiface 2, in combination with the chord it creates a energetic "alive" sound.
I think it's very good value for money, but others with xmos chip should be comparable and always an upgrade for your pc signal..

Another option might be a separate lineair 5Vdc USB adapter like the one from aqvox. Removes the noisy 5V USB from your pc and harsness in treble.
Good to be used together with a converter also.
