NAS drive and blu ray images
« on: October 17, 2012, 05:05:23 am »

Hi,

I am looking to expand the storage capacity of my HTPC by purchasing a NAS device but before I take the plunge I wonder if anyone has any real-world experience of streaming blu rays stored in BDMV folders over gigabit ethernet. The NAS I am currently looking at is the Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ v2 which according to the review below has performance of 81MB/sec for reading a video file. Is this fast enough?

Thanks

should be plenty.  81MB/s = 648 megabits/s (1MB = 8mb), and bluray is somewhere on average about 35mb/s.

I stream bluray rips over my gig network all the time, as well as recording TV over the same network, and have had no issues with bandwidth at all.  I did a stress test...recorded 4 HD shows, and streamed a bluray, and it held up fine.

Thanks for that, I guessed it would probably be OK but it's nice to get some reassurance before I spend the money.
