what is supported? twin tuners? whats available now . I'm new here . A lot of tuners i see are not available. Must have coax input . Must be able to run without constant wifi present, as i only have a mifi router.Streaming off internet any length of time aka Netflix movies not gonna happen.  Suggestions?  Cheers!

The thread near the top of this board lists a few supported devices, but not all.  It explains that essentially all BDA devices are supported.

"SiliconDust HDHomerun" is a good device and many users here like it because it is a network device.  You connect it to your router, and it can be accessed by all computers on the network.  It comes with two tuners.

Hauppauge site has a number of tuners that should work well in MC too.  They are not network devices.  You have choices of PCI (PCIe) and USB tuners.

Problem is 1 ) not available. 2) not compatable with my router ( mifi wireless only, this one doesn't hard wire tether )  this is the best I can do where I live. I REALLY REALLY want a wired only setup ,tuner out by means of USB out to CPU & coax antenna input to tuner I only want astc feed , free broadcast tv . Twin tuner with ability to record 2 shows at once.
I am doing better on audio this time (trial) thanks

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 internal card has two digital tuners.

Or use a couple of USB sticks like WinTV-HVR-950Q.

Hi Jack,

You weren't very clear with your requirement.  You said co-ax input which doesn't tell us very much.  What sort of transmissions do you want to receive and what part of the world are you in?

I am in the UK and using BlackGold tuner cards which are very good and work well with MC.  They support DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 with up to four tuners on one card.

     I'm in the US . 75 ohm coax input for ATSC HD broadcast TV (antenna lead in ) this is my only means of pulling in ANY feeds of ANY kind .I have no phone lines, or cable ,or satellite dish. NO streaming thru internet . Only have MiFI  connection . NO wire to MiFi possible . my internet is extremely limited and only works for short intervals. which makes ripping Cd's a pain ,need to do a lot of manual tagging & artwork

My research thus far has not been very inspiring . poor tuner performance (reviews ) reliability issues , support & availability

I just hooked up yesterday, an old roof top antennae that was on my house when I bought it 15 years ago.  I plugged it into my Hauppauge 2250 and was amazed at the reception quality. I am going to run it along side of another 2250 that I have connected to cable. The OTA was better on some broadcasts, and my channel 5.1 would always pixilate when using cable, the OTA signal is perfect.

JR is reporting 100% signal strength on all channels.
I have always had a really good experience with my 2250s.

The 2250 looked like the obvious choice till I started reading reviews of poor reception performance  . I'll give this one a shot now. I'm no computer geek but i am an antenna geek,, long time .You simply can't beat a good outdoor antenna .I live in a FRINGE area so tuner performance matters to me  .As i know all tuners aren't the same.When it comes to digital signal reception a tiny bit better can be a lot.

Hi , was just getting ready to order the 2250 , but now a bit confused about all the variants of this model (amazon)I understand certain ones come with a remote ( that I don't think I want ? Planing on getting a j river remote) so I just need the plain board model it's going in a Dell 8500 i7 /12 ram desktop just need the 2 tuner atsc broadcast model . I guess I get QAM regardless (cable hook up ?) And what on gods green earth is a WHITE BOX ?

ClearQAM is for receiving unencrypted signal from Cable (usually just the local TV stations you would have received for free if you have good antenna).  It is useful if you already have cable subscription and have poor over-the-air reception.

White box - I have to take a guess here.  Someone who knows better can correct me if I am wrong.  The Amazon description for one item says "... for System Builders ...".  It means the device does not come in a colorful box like you would expect to find on a store shelf.  It does not come with remote control (which you already know).  It probably does not come with a Hauppauge provided software (which you do not need since you are using it in MC).  It should come with a disk for driver installation.  If not you have to download it from Hauppauge.

Thanks , thought the QAM had to do with cable tv & and well the answer for the white box makes sense so I need just the basic internal card & software ( from manufacture ) & my mc 17 & I'm in bussiness ( I hope )

The 2250 came from Hauppauge in 2 flavors. The "Kit" with the MCE remote and reciever, and the "White Box" no remote. That is the only difference. It is probably still the same if you order direct from them like I did a while back and saw the 2 different offerings.

Yes I was at their website & only saw the 2 you stated . Amazon on the other hand seems to have many more ( maybe discontinued ? ) don't know just confusing

Well if you look at the Part # there is only 1229 (No Remote) and 1213 (With Remote) on the Amazon listings.

Whitebox is just that, a plain box that usually ships to OEMs. No difference in hardware, sometimes accessories.

I just install a hauppauge hvr-2250 in my downstairs htpc a few days ago, it is feed over-the-air from my townhomes common antenna. I get 50 channels, including 12 which are HD, the clarity is awesome.
