Position of subtitle in black bar below video content
« on: October 27, 2012, 08:01:40 am »

Dunno if it is possible today, I guess not - so this would be a feature suggestion.
MC18 displays the subtitle within the video image:

While others here MplayerX (XBMC does the same):

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

show the subtitle in the black bar below - much better imo.
Can we have MC18 display the subtitle in the black bar?

This is possible when you play a video file where JRiver Subtitle Renderer is loaded. In my case this happens when I play Blu-Ray movies. I have a few movies with SRT subtitles, but it does not look like JRiver Subtitle Renderer is used here.

When the movie is playing right click the movie and go the menu Subtitles/Shift. Here you can choose to move the subtitle up or down. The setting  is saved for every movie you do this with.

Thanks for the input TLS
I see the option, but it doesn't change no matter what shift % I enter,
at least not in my Library client playing MKV.
And it is kinda inconvenient to do it for every movie, especially when sitting
on the sofa with no mouse.

An option to display the subtitle on the bottom of the screen instead on
the bottom of the movie could solve the problem.

The amount of shift supported may vary depending on if you use madVR or EVR as your renderer (Red October Standard vs HQ).  madVR will probably be more flexible.

We can't put the subtitles outside the renderer's video area, since the subtitle is rendered as part of the video as an overlay.  And EVR and madVR work differently in how the 'non video' part of the picture is handled.

Thanks Matt
It obviously is possible, as demonstrated by other players.
I'm hoping you feel challenged one day to catch up with those  ;D

At least now the subtitles show on my Library clients, thanks for that.
