Freezing/crashing play/pause [Solved -- driver problem]
« on: November 28, 2012, 06:28:55 pm »

I'm experiencing freezing/crashing of MC18 about 50% of the time that I use the pause button.

I press pause and the music pauses but, when the freeze occurs, the button never changes to "play".  When I click pause/play again, I have to force close the program.

Please provide some details on which version you're using, version of Windows, files you're playing, etc.

A virus checker can cause similar problems.  There are more possibilities in the "Weird Problems" thread in my signature.

I'm running Vista, and only playing audio in mp3 and FLAC format w/WASAPI output to a USB DAC.  Virus software is Avast.

I have just tried backing up my library, uninstall, reboot, reinstall and restoring library and settings with no improvement.

I will take a look at your problem link.  Thanks.

I suppose I should also mention that this is a clean, barebones install (no plugins) on an otherwise very stable system.  Disabling antivirus has shown no improvement.

It sounds like an audio driver problem.

But if you switch to WASAPI - Event Style, I think it will fix it.  With that mode, the device never sees a flush or pause.

That did indeed fix the issue.  I hadn't tried event-style because I had read there were issues with it and Vista 64 bit (which I failed to mention to you that I'm using!).

The DAC I'm using uses a generic USB audio driver.

Thanks for the help!

Now that I've given WASAPI Event Style a short listen, I realize I now have another problem.  I get occasional brief clicks/pops during playback.

I tried the suggestions here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=67779.0 with no improvement.  I'm running my HRT MS II on a self-powered hub.

This is not solved.  Please see post above.

I cannot get Event style to work properly with the HRT.  There are pops/clicks during playback.

Push-type WASAPI works fine if I don't press pause.

The original problem was solved by switching to a different driver.  If you want help on another problem, please start a new thread.

Take a look at the "DAC Settings" topic on our wiki before posting.

Try increasing the buffering setting in Options > Audio > Output mode settings...
