Importing music files in two formats
« on: December 02, 2012, 01:49:55 pm »

Hi

Is there a simple way of ripping a CD in two formats (lossless and lossy), keeping the two variants in separate libraries?

We want to stream the lossless format to an expensive hifi unit and keep the mp3's for our iPods.

we have a licence for JR MC v16.   At the moment, MC is used for the lossless format and iTunes for the mp3 players and it's all a bit of a palaver to get the music converted from one format to the other.

Does anyone know of a better way of doing it?

thanks for your help

Rip to lossless, and then use MC to convert for any lossy formats.  You can use the Handheld Sync to create a virtual handheld (i.e. a folder) where the converted files are stored.

Create a smartlist that includes everything you want synced, and select that in the "Check any that should be included in your sync" under the Options > Handheld definition.

MrC - thanks very much for your idea :).  I'll have a go at what you suggest and let you know how it goes, but it will be tomorrow I think because I'll need to read up on the handheld sync side of things using MC first.

cheers

Here's a reply I posted recently.  It includes a screenshot of some settings I use.  Ask if you have more questions.
