Have the Razor Maxx and when I put all my songs from J River on it my phone does not recognize the APE format so they won't play..? Do I have to convert all of them to something else and if so won't that create two of every song I have?

Yes, you'll need to convert.

You can use the Handheld Sync to perform the conversion during sync.

MC will build a cache of files, by default, so yes, you'll have duplicate tracks (in different formats).  If you're going to be doing a lot of syncing, the cache makes the sync much faster.  Otherwise, you'll have to wait for conversion each time.  You can defeat the cache in Options.

It appears to support MP3, ACC+, WAV and WMA, so probably MP3 is fine.

Suggestion - create a small playlist with a couple of albums to sync.  Select only that playlist under the Handheld definitions when you create it.  Then, only these files will sync, and as you build confidence, you can increase the playlist (or smartlist).
