DTS OUTPUT IN AUDIO OUT ?
« on: January 22, 2013, 12:43:31 am »

MC 18 is a great player , congrats !
Happy owner of the previous version , i just moved to the upgrade.
i am using mc 18 to listen to audio through hiface usb to spdif out via hp laptop (no spdif integrated )
When playing movies or 5.1 music i am using the 5.1 channels with the dolby out checked after having a favorite dsp in the audio chain (bitstream not an option as it only bypasses dolby or dts without dsps on )
but having ''only'' 640 kbps in my receiver for 5 channels.Dts can go to 1536 kbps which is more than double the bitrate.
whell dts have royalties obviously , but a player of such quality must make the leap forward i think. There ia nothing else i can think of that i would want for an upgrade

DTS is not necessarily of higher quality then AC3. Just because it uses a higher bitrate doesn't make it better, maybe it just encodes less efficient? :)

Well in almost every comparison between the 2 formats in all our ears dts is the clear winner constantly.
That was obvious from the early days when every dvd movie was using dolby.
When a movie with dts appeared was a revelation (dolby was in most cases 384 kbps of course)
Now with every blu ray movie using dts the observation is repeating itself when dolby is available also.
Sorry dolby you have to try harder.

I used both : ATI (for ex 6570) and Intel (i3, 3225) set to 8-channel PCM - even upsampled to 192/24 - by DSP into my denon receiver through HDMI. It works perfectly.

Google DTS vs Dolby for why people think DTS sounds better.
