Slow Import
« on: January 26, 2013, 09:40:08 am »

I'm in the process of importing a 84,000 songs into MC18, most of them in ALAC format (migrating from an iTunes setup). I was quickly able to browse and play music but the process of analyzing the audio is going very slowly - at the rate of 800 per hour, or roughly 4.5sec per song.

Should I be concerned about this rate, or just be patient?

Analyzing Audio is so you can use the ReplayGain feature.

You should be able to use the program while it's doing this.

If you don't think you'll want ReplayGain, just cancel the analysis and tell auto-import not to analyze audio.

Many thanks Matt. I'll probably just let it run. No big deal really as long as I know it's "normal".

A follow-up question, Matt. I decided to let the audio file processing proceed but I was wondering if I were to shut down MC18 before it's completed, will it pick up where it left off?

It's going to take several days before it's done and I expect I may want to - or have to - re-boot before that time, for reasons unrelated to MC18.

Yes.  It's perfectly fine to stop any time.
