I understand MC cannot include ASIO -  the website given (asio4all.com) is in German, without obvious download link.

Anyone know a working link to downloading the dll?  And instructions as to how to add it to MC?

ASIO drivers usually come from the manufacturer of the device you use.

ASIO4all is a wrapper around Kernel Streaming.  You could just use Kernel Streaming.

Rhk - it appears that ASIO4ALL lost their web site (apparently not enough donations) - that's just someone buying the domain to put up ads in German.

If you want ASIO4ALL, do a web search on ASIO4ALL and find a reputable download site like CNET or Softpedia.

ASIO4ALL is a wrapper around Kernel Streaming that allows lower latency.   Some USB DACs work better with lower latency (despite that being contrary to what might work better with PC sound card DACs).

Here is a USB DAC designer explaining why:

The underlying goal is to get the host (computer) to respond to feedback within the limits as defined by the USB specification.  This is generally under 32 ms for an Audio Class 1.0 asynchronous device.  Most host's can accomplish this with a range of buffer sizes but for those that have poorly performing USB subsystems, reducing the buffer overhead to 50 mS of less typically gets them back into compliance.

Thanks for the replies. Not recording live - just ripping vinyl, tapes & CDs - looking for  best quality sound.

WASAPI and/or WASAPI Event Style offer the same benefits of ASIO without having to download extra drivers.

I'd recommend trying those if they work for you.

None of the above (in the thread) refers to recording live.

What sort of DAC are you using ?   Built-in to motherboard ?   Built-in to A/V receiver ?  Some other ?

By the way, to answer an earlier question, if you install ASIO4ALL, you would then open MC18 and go to:

Tools->Options->Audio->Audio Output->Output Mode and change to ASIO (or WASAPI or Kernel Streaming, etc).

Then go to:

Tools->Options->Audio->Audio Output->Output Mode settings to setup ASIO configuration.
