When you rip, verify Artist is correct for each track for various artists albums.  Set Album Artist if you want to use a single artist to override a various artist album.  Otherwise, you can set the Multiple Artists checkbox.

See: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Album_Artist_and_Album_Artist_%28Auto%29

Some folks place Artist in Name, and submit to the JRiver database YADB.  You can correct and resubmit (right click the CD > Submit to Internet).

To fix this, I would use the Fill properties from filename… feature. (under tools > library tools)
This should mostly automate the process.

Directories: C:\Users\Mike\Music\[Album]\[Description]\
Filename: [Album] - [Artist] - [Name]

Thanks!!
i should probably fix the filenamame/path too so that they all match and are in the same folder?

I still am worried about how I avoid this in future rips..

Setup a Base folder and Folder Rule in Tools > Options > File Location > Audio.  Also a Filename Rule.

You can use expressions to switch on multiple artists and multiple discs.  For example:

   Music\[Album Artist (auto)]\[Album]Delimit([Disc #,0], /) ,/ /(Disc/ )

Be sure to verify the CD metadata before the rip starts.

The Rename, Move, & Copy Files… tool can do this:

That's not how I choose to name my files, but it matches your "correct" image.

Thanks MrC but your way above me there.  What are expressions?  Are you referring to a folder for various artists discs?

You mean "Multiple Artists"?

MC's Tools > Options > File Location > Audio provides a way for you to specify paths that are used when MC creates new audio media.  By setting your paths here, you can be sure to get consistent file locations and names when ripping and when performing other activities where MC stores audio files.

These paths can be static, or can be more dynamic, based on metadata templates such as [Album], [Artist], etc.  Still more powerful is using rules to define where media is stored, based on the metadata.

The salient point is to define the File Location values first, and then rip.  At the bottom of the Rename dialog, you can also call up these File Location values with the Preset button.

Thanks for the helpful replies so far.  I'm working on understanding the programs capabilities before getting too far.  This recently ripped CD of the Wedding Singer is very confusing however.  It tagged the whole album correctly except Spandau Ballet - True.  Also, why is it using the Wedding singer cover art on some songs, but not on others?

Also, I see that it is putting the songs in the artists folder instead of a soundtrack folder with the album.  I don't like it splitting up the tracks like that.

Sometimes the metadata that comes back from YADB or when not there, from FreeDB, is not accurate or correct.  You should examine this data before the rip and correct it.  Then rip, and your album will behave as a single album.

If you are a good Samaritan, you will submit the corrected CD metadata back to YADB so that others will benefit.
