FLAC vs. Wavpack
« on: May 27, 2013, 10:15:35 am »

Hi,
regarding the choice between lossless formats; are there any important pros and cons differences between FLAC- and Wavpack files, except for the Wavpack hybrid option?
Thanks!

Most lossless formats are within about 5% of each other as far as compression is concerned.
How fast it is to compress/decompress can vary quite a bit though.

FLAC/ALAC are the most popular formats because they have good metadata support, and wide hardware support.

I use ALAC because I have a number of Apple devices, and this allows me to copy/stream files on to them without conversion.
Really, that is all that matters—they all sound the same.

As for hybrid lossless/lossy formats, I actually dislike this. I want the format I am using to only support lossless audio.

Can someone please answer this questions instead of ranting on about what they prefer and like?
