Streaming from J River to PWD bridge
« on: June 12, 2013, 09:00:00 am »

I have J River 18.0.195 up and running on my computer and am controlling it via J Remote.  Currently I am connected to my PWDII via USB but want to stream it over the network through the bridge.  How do I set this up?

Does anyone have an existing write up that covers this?

I could generate one but it will take some time to complete.

I am doing what you describe right now. 1st, everything must be connected through the same LAN. The Bridge should be connected via Ethernet from the router/hub. I use CAT 7, but 6 is fine (CAT 5 too for that matter). Your PC or Mac must also be connected to the same LAN. If you are using an expansion drive, that must be connected through the router/hub or the computer. Restart everything computer and reboot the DAC with the Bridge inserted and they should find each other. See if this works.

Additionaly you should select in JRemote (I have to do that) the PWD as device in the controllbar (You find this in the left-down corner of JRemote). And for sure JRiver must  configure JRiver as DNLA Server and Controller (to be done under the Options).

Thanks for the info.  Everything is connected appropriately.  I've been using the PS Audio software for a while really without issue.  I think I'm up and running now but have to wait until I get home to be sure.

So I'm home now and J River is connected via LAN to the PWD.  J Remote is controlling everything.  However, music will not start.  It loads the pre-buffer then skips to the next song and repeats.  If I switch back to Player (connected to PWD via USB) it works fine. Any ideas?

The music doesn't start even if you start from JRiver MC directly?
Can you control the volume of the PWD with JRemote?

1. What I register if I'm playing music with the DNLA configuration of JRiver and the album that I play was signed as gapless in eLyric Music Manager  it took a long time until it starts playing and it also doesn't start every time with the first title (but with the second to third).
2. If I use in the DNLA Configuration eLyric Music Manager as the Media Server I got always the Message from MC "It occurs  a problem with the Device". I have to use the internal library of JRiver.

Best regards

No, the music won't start on MC directly or via J Remote.

I haven't tried any volume with J Remote.  I keep the PWD at 100 and use my pre-amp as volume control.

Interestingly, if I'm playing PWD through eLyric on the LAN, then JRiver will start.  Mind you, it's not playing through the PWD because eLyric is but at least it doesn't get caught in the buffering stage.

So at this point, J River is not functioning over the LAN with PWD, only directly via USB.  I know others have had success so I'm still not sure why I am not.

After all this time  not getting MC to stream to the PWD via bridge, I finally have it up and running.  I had to change the audio output mode under the DLNA to Orininal-  Tools>Options>Media & Network>Add or Configure DLNA Server>Audio>Mode>Original.  It was set to specified output before.  I don't know if specified output was default or if I set it that way, but that made it work. All of my files are AIFF at this time.
