Crashing when searching
« on: June 14, 2013, 12:24:49 pm »

Hi all –

I still get crashes 100% of the time when typing. Three letters into the search field or Play Doctor in Playing Now, and, boom, crash.

I am on 10.8.4, MC .195, listening by connecting to a Windows server.

Thanks –

I haven't seen this on our systems.  Are others experiencing this problem?  Send a log file my way (johnt at jriver dot com) and I'll look it over.  Thanks.

I am also having this issue and have reported this several times.  I can reproduce the issue 100% of the time.

But I find if I type one character at a time, and let the program update the results before typing the next character, I can usually search without crashing.    Usually...

I tried this too. It still crashes at three characters, but it takes longer...probably because I'm typing slower. ;)

Maybe if one of you could send me your Media Center library, I could test it here.  There may be something to do with the size of the library or some unusual characters in it or something like that.   I've tried typing hundreds of search strings, slow, fast, medium and no crashes on four different systems and libraries.

Whew, hm, my library is 9.4mb. Should I try and make a subset or do you want the big'un?

If you can make a smaller subset that crashes on search, I'll take that.

Another thing that could make it hard to replicate what you're seeing is if your system is way faster (or way slower) than mine.  I've got a 6 month old Mac Mini i7 with SSD drive, 4gb ram.  What are you running?

Does pretty much any group of characters typed into the search box cause a crash?

Sure, I'll give it shot. Email it to you?

I'm on a mid-2010 MBP, 2.53 i5, 4GB RAM, SSD. Nothing else has speed issues (except gcc, but that's not surprising).

Give the latest build a try.  It should work ok now, but your large field values (i.e. Lyrics) may be truncated and you'll need to do an "update library from tags" on them.  From now on, nothing should get truncated.

Indeed it works! Thanks very much, John.
