Locked View - Rules For File Display
« on: July 10, 2013, 08:37:13 pm »

Decided to start playing around with locked views, correct me if I am wrong, this just seems like this is the way it should work..

I tried it on a tracks based view, with the rules for file display ~sort=[Name]

I then decided to reverse the name order by clicking at the top of the column, shouldn't the original rules spring back when I next visit this view? upon inspection they are now ~sort=[Name]-d

The sort will reset when you Refresh (F5) the view (which can include resetting the selection in a pane, or using Search).

Views don't automatically refresh, and the current search is retained.

Tried that, anything else that could cause this.. I closed mc, & reopened and the sort changes seem to be permanent.. Wait, no I wasn't filtering using panes or using search, I was just clicking on the column titles to re-sort the file list.

Does seem to be permanent, I sorted by BPM by clicking on the column title (BPM was never in the original sort rules).. Killed MC, re-opened checked the rules for file display and bpm was in there. Seems that sorting by columns does not honour the locked view..

I sorted a file list by clicking on the Name column, Quit MC, and when reopened, the sort had reverted to my defined sort of Date Created.  So it seems to be working for me.

Quite a puzzle here   ? I can't think of any setting that would affect this.. Tried it on a new blank locked view, list style: details, group by none & one sorting rule. Subsequent sorting via the columns still persist and any sorting on columns that aren't on the rules appear in rules for file display after sorting via a column..

Edit
Will check on my netbook, to see if the same happens later on today..

I'm not sure.. Tried this morning on my netbook the same results. I then decided to make a new library to see if that would help, I made a temp view, grouped by none like in the image below. Saved the locked view by overwrite, and then sorted the album column to reverse and also clicked a few other columns to sort by them.. Killed MC via the task manager, opened up mc again and the sorting rules, again were permanently changed..

Under Tools > Options > Tree & View, what is your setting for Save changes on list header clicks?  Mine is disabled.  I think that is probably the difference.

That's the ticket MrC, thanks for the help  ;D That one had been bugging me for a while.. Sometimes, I still get a bit perplexed by the variety of options in mc.. Just a suggestion here.. Some options like that one could do with being displayed in their respective areas as well as in the options menu imo.. Like a checkbox under the edit search's modify results. Probably as a global option rather than different for each view.

btw. I think you have a good point in this thread.

Perhaps the Option should be global, but the Lock View setting being set in the view should have higher precedence.

Maybe the JRiver folks will consider this for the next release.
