Theater View - Set Folders
« on: July 20, 2013, 10:47:15 pm »

Hi All,

I only use theatre view and audio.

Upon start-up --> Audio, I would like to see folders like this:

Classical ---- Spoken Word ----- Brasil ------ Other

(or something like that)

The names above would be the same as the folder names in my server where the items are simply placed in folders like that.

At the moment, I find it very hard to find anything quickly without using the search function.

All help welcome.

Cheers.

You can customize the views in: Tools > Options > Theater View

To add the folder locations you have into Theater View, go the location mentioned by 6233638.  Then, click on Audio under Items to Show and click the Add button to the right.  Select Library Item and change its Name under Details on the right.  Call it Path (or anything you want).  Now click the Add button under Details, below the Name, and select File path.  Click the Browse button, and navigate as far into your folder tree as you need so that you have the parent folder containing your Audio files.

OK your way out, and go to Theater View and test out the new Path navigation.  You can remove others that you don't want.

Hi,

All done, but i can see two folders that I didn't expect:

"All Locations (\\medianas\multimedia\ .... (can't see the full address)" ----- contains all the individual songs and,

"Unassigned"  ------ seems to be every track on the server, listed track by track.

Have I done something wrong here?

Thanks for your patience,

Cheers.

All Locations can be disabled in the Theater View configuration.  It is in the Options pulldown at the bottom of Details for a given view.  Disable the Display 'All' as a choice option.

The Unassigned comes because you've configured a path below a certain level, yet MC still has some files that fall outside this path and are still valid for the view.  You now need to refine the view to exclude files that don't begin with the path you've chosen.   Go to your Path view, and click Set rules for file display.  Then, add a new rule, which is Filename (path) starts with <lowest valid path>, where <lowest valid path> is the full path that you browsed to in your Location setting (which you can see under Details).

Re: Theater View - Set Folders - Broken
« Reply #7 on: July 25, 2013, 07:46:41 am »

Hi Guys,

Need some more help here.

I got the folders all set up beautifully.

For some reason, one folder would not show any files in Theater View, so I went to import them as a library.

Doing this deleted all the folder settings, which I have now reinstated, but no files at all are showing up.

If I go to Recent, they are all there.

What happened?

Can you give some more info?

What were the folder paths you had?
What was the folder path of the import?

I assume by "deleted all the folder settings", you mean that your items no longer appear under this Theater View's view (an import would not delete any folder settings).

Examine the Filename field for the files in question.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

First, these file paths on my NAS were working perfectly until I loaded the library again into JR18:

+"Display All" unchecked and filename path  starts with the full pathname.

\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Brasil\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Chill\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Classical\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Other\

This was the one which did not bring any files into Theater View (all mp3):
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Plays and Spoken Word\

I have now re-entered all the above but still see "There are no items to display" in Theater View.

However, although I can see all albums in Theater, I cannot find anything from the Plays and Spoken Word path ......

Cheers!

Are these the only 5 items you want shown?

Are there other items within and under \\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\

I'm thinking of providing you with a better way of doing this.

The Location (path) view setting allows only a single path to be entered, so you'd have to enter:

   \\MEDIANAS\Multimedia

to get all the paths below that.

This is really getting to me now!  :)

I also have JR18, which is rarely used, installed on my home - work computer  (same network at home as the HTPC copy downstairs in the living room) ----- just loaded the \\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Plays and Spoken Word\ and no items in Theater View!

Answering your question, the full list of folders would be:

\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Brasil\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Chill\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Classical\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Other\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Mai\
\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Music\FLAC\Favourites\

Plus the rogue

\\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\Plays and Spoken Word\

I'm happy to work through this with you if you don't mind ....

Cheers.

Then lets go about it this way.  We'll set two items:

1. The rules for file display.  See Rules.png.

2. The expression to show your paths.  See Expression.png.

In (2), replace the File path setting instead with an Expression:

    replace([Filename (path)], \\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\)&datatype=[list]

Now you should see your paths broken into a hierarchy which you'll drill into.

Thanks, done that.

Do I now have to set up the actual list of folders for the various types of media?

Can you elaborate?  I'm not sure if this is related to the original question, or if this is some new question.

Are there any other steps involved?

When I open theatre view, and click "by Path" there are not items to display ....

Can you show some screenshots of the relevant configuration areas for Theater View?

With the Audio > Path entry selected:

   - The Theater View Options
   - Set rules for file display
   - The values of anything under Details

The last screenshot is of the top level Audio view in Theater View.  It generally would have the value:

   Media Type is Audio

Other than that, i don't see anything wrong.  Please confirm that your imported media files do begin with:

   \\MEDIANAS\Multimedia\

You can examine the Filename field in one of your standard Audio views.

OK, now we are getting somewhere:

Nothing plays when I click it!

Solved it by re importing the library but by using the Windows mapped drive letter ...

Many many thanks for the help, all seems fine now.

There's the problem.  You had \\NAS\... as the path, but MC shows it was using drive letter M:\ paths.
