Same Performance as MC18 ?
« on: July 23, 2013, 11:27:31 am »

Hi Guys,

I see all the new features which are all good.

Will this have very similar CPU and RAM consumption as MC18?

Currently running MC18 but don't want to turn into a turtle when upgrade to MC19.

Had bad experiences with the following MS Vista, Lightroom 3 (early version), Cyberlink Power DVD12, Norton AV(at some point) to name a few.

Wouldn't like MC19 to follow this path.

Cheers,

Andrevi

It should be at least as fast as MC18.

One of the things that Matt et al do from time to time is to make certain processes faster. Over the years, I believe MC has become faster and more responsive - for some features many-fold more quick than back when I got on board with MC 12.

Every version is slower than the next ;D  ( think carefully )

MC18 got faster in a bunch of areas -- font engine, internal 64-bit audio processing, image engine, etc.

My goal is for MC19 to be 20% faster than MC18.  I have no idea where that performance will come from, but they say you're not supposed to set a goal you know how to reach.

One little thing in MC19 already is a review of all timers running on the main thread.  It led to this:
Faster: Work to reduce the number of timers running to check things, update things, etc. (the idle timer load is now about 6x smaller than it was before).

Great goal, Matt. I immediately volunteer to send you a large expression rich library backup for a 20% performance boost of my views ;).  I am sure I am going to need it, if you plan introduce new expression or HTML features, or I decide to go heavy on the global variables.
